Could my problem be circulatory? Vascular? Something Else? I first noticed the thickness of my legs a few years ago. My legs were, and still are, what I define as kankles. They’re tubular, treetrunk-ish, and very unappealing to the eye. There is also the red and purpleness that my feet constantly have. And it’s not just a slight discoloration caused by being hot or cold, my feet turn so RED and PURPLE that it freaks my friends out. At first I thought that it was just fat or muscle. However, my mom brought up the fact that I could be retaining fluid. We went with that. I’ve since seen three doctors about my problem: my physician, an Endocrinologist, and a Cardiologist. I’ll be seeing a vascular specialist in a week. My physician was concerned with my legs, agreed that I had some mild edema, and sent me to a Cardiologist. The Cardiologist said that my heart was fine, my legs were not connected to any heart problems whatsoever, and that I had no edema at all and it was just the way I was built. The Endocrinologist said that my thyroid levels were normal and that my legs were just built that way. Some more info: - I’m about 5’7” and weigh around 142 ibs. - The last time I got them checked, my BMI was 21 (low end of the normal range) and my body fat percentage was 34 (high end of healthy range, bordering on “overweight”.) - Around the time that I first noticed my legs, I had been taken off of thyroid medication that I did not need. Immediately afterward I gained a lot of weight that I still cannot get rid of with eating as healthy as I can at the moment (German family, in highschool, lives with parents, not much choice over what I get to eat) and exercising regularly (45 min – 1.5 hr a day). Most of this weight is from the waist down. - My mom is very skinny also, so my being skinny as a kid could not only be accounted for by childhood skinnyness (since all little kids are skinny) but also by genetics. Could my legs just have some unproportional weight gain from having my thyroid messed with? - My feet and legs do no hurt on their own, but they get sore very easily even if I’m wearing sturdy, comfortable tennis shoes. - There is no pitting besides marks from my socks and things that my legs have been pressed up against, but my feet and legs also get those white marks from being poked. - It takes a looong time for things on my legs and feet to heal. Blisters, cuts, scrapes, you name it. A few months ago I skinned my knee and I still have a bright red mark from it. The band aid also left a red mark that won’t go away. Right now I’m just getting a bit frustrated with the situation (a teenage girl who used to be really skinny now being told by two doctors that her legs are naturally fat and disproportional and not being upset about it? As over the years i have researched pcos i have come across many things. i know there is a very strong link to it being hereditary, and this shows from my nan to my dad down to me. I am diagnosed severe PCOS for the last 12 years. Also I have discovered that PCOS has only recently been linked with insulin resistance and shows that there is so much more research needed in these fields. ok fact is insulin resistance produces higher levels of insulin in the blood. that then causes problems with the pituitary gland, and thus secretes incorrect amounts of hormones, resulting in eggs beginging to mature but dont mature enough to be released, then they become foriegn obects, so the body makes them surrounds them by fluid, hence making them a cyst. right... so the actual effect from the insulin to the pituitary gland doesnt have to be of a major degree.. but the effect on the female reproductive system becomes catistrophic.. as the female repoductive system is so sensitive.. therefore - if i have genetically passed down my condition and the whole insulin resistance to my son then surely having an effect on his pituitary gland could result in one of the other hormones, such as tsh, being effected? I ask this and ask if anyone else has had the same experience with maybe not just their children but also siblings? It is just my 2 yr old son has had constipation and muscle cramps and i have been told it is not unusual in children. basically growing pains and i am not feeding him correctly! but i know it is more as i have tried everything to relieve his constipation and it is not working.. so my Dr sent him for blood tests and the tests have come back that he has a slightly higher than normal tsh reading but a normal free t3,t4 reading. so he doesnt have an underactive thyroid altho constipation and muscle cramps are symptons of it. When i discovered the link between tsh and pituitary my alarm bells rang die to my PCOS and the defenant link down my family. I asked when i went to see the dr about the cramps, and i saw him at the time this 4 month bout of constipation he has, had started, so i asked if we had taken the same blood test then could it have shown a different reading. he doesnt think so but cant say for sure.. but i pushed to be referred to a specialist. which he has done. altho he says insulin resistance is not present in infants..... As i say all this has so much more research needed.. and so much of this info is new. So i think a link hereditary and to other pituitary hormones as not been made known. (am i making myself clear?) :S I also remember reading a while back that they thought insulin resistance started in childhood as the pancreas over producing insulin, and as insulin is a poison, the body then builds up a resistance to it.. but they didnt know why the pancreas would start to over produce slightly.. we are not talking high levels of insulin that would cause low blood sugar, just high enough for the body to not like it and build a defence, a resistance. So i fear the higher tsh level he had, shows he has inherited my insulin condition and he is at the stage where is body is working up a defence and resistance to insulin and maybe if he has tests they can find a cause for him... to me this makes sense.. mabe i am being ignorant and nieve. so please anyone else had a simular experience.. or has what i said made a light go on about a child or sibling that you never thought of before.. maybe there pituitary has been effected with the growth hormone or breast milk hormone.... but i think it would be in a mild way, not severe enough for a dr to make a total diagnosis... maybe they had high readings at some point and had to be monitored.. thank you all for reading this.

I Really Need Your Help Please? My son is 5 yrs old and has had chronic ear infections, fluid build up on his ears despite having tubes put in twice and the last set was just put in a month ago, he suffers from a severe speech delay(talks at the age of a 2.5 yr old) and he has very narrow ear canals. He has seen 3 ENT's(ear nose and throat specialists and i have gotten no results or no solutions. The last one said i should give him nasonex because he "might" have allergies which are causing his hearing loss. I would think if he had allergies i would have known by now and something would have given me a warning sign or symptom of an allergy, he then proceeds to tell me that my son should at least be tested for allergies so i agree but he then tells me if he has allergies he needs allergy shots every week for a year and my son is terrified of needles. The only commonality that i have found in the all the doctors is that my son has narrow ear canals. My question to you are there any illnesses, disorders, or congenital defects that could as a result of narrow ear drums and is there a treatment surgical or otherwise? My son has seen numerous doctors and numerous specialists and it seems there is no light at the end of the tunnel, i am a frustrated mother and i could really use some advice here on what this could be. I found something called ear canal stenosis but no information seems to be available on it. I don't know if my has this or if it's even a possibility as there is so little information available on it. Please provide me with links to ANY useful websites that could be helpful. How Would You Have Handled This? Ok so my 5yr old son went to see an ear nose and throat specialist(ENT) for chronic sinus infections, the ENT determined he had enlarged adenoids and needed tubes in his ears, 18 months later the tubes still hadn't fallen out and were hindering his hearing because they were blocked with wax but the doctor decided to leave them in saying they will fall out when they are ready to 8 months after that they still hadn't fallen out. I decided maybe i should seek a second opinion on whether this tube should be removed and sure enough it needed to be removed but fluid had built up in his ear again and he needed yet another surgery to put in new tubes but the new ENT could only get a tube in the right ear and said to me his ear was to small for a tube in the left ear. Now he went for a follow up 2 days ago and she tells me he still has the same hearing loss as before the surgery which was dec.11th/08. I asked her what we do now and she says nothing, i tell her he has had speech therapy for the last 16months as a result of hearing loss she then tells me in front of my son that his speech problems are not related to hearing they are because of my inability to parent my son correctly. Now my son has been going through all of this since he was 18months old, we knew he had hearing problems then when he couldn't even babble in baby gurburish. Do you think we have a right to seek yet a third opinion or should we just accept he has a hearing impairment? The first ENT would even do 1 surgery for tubes and adenoids he did 2 separte surgeries maybe for the money who knows but what would you do and how would you handle this if this was your child? DO you think a parent should be able to seek as many as possible until the problem is rectified? I just know in my gut this can be fixed and i truly believe the problem is his tonsils, with enlarged adenoids you usually have enlarged tonils to and both should be removed at the same time. Clinton, speaking in a televised address to the nation at 7:40 last night, said he ordered the attack to send three messages to the Iraqi leadership: "We will combat terrorism. We will deter aggression. We will protect our people." Clinton said he ordered the attack after receiving "compelling evidence" from U.S. intelligence officials that Bush had been the target of an assassination plot and that the plot was "directed and pursued by the Iraqi Intelligence Service." "It was an elaborate plan devised by the Iraqi government and directed against a former president of the United States because of actions he took as president," Clinton said. Bush led the coalition that drove Iraq from Kuwait in the 1991 Persian Gulf War. "As such, the Iraqi attack against President Bush was an attack against our country and against all Americans," Clinton said. After two months of investigation and mounting evidence, Clinton became convinced during two "exhaustive and exhausting" meetings last week that Iraq was indeed behind a foiled car-bomb plot to kill Bush during his visit to Kuwait April 14-16, a senior administration official said. Aides met with Clinton Wednesday in the White House residence to present a summary of the evidence gathered by FBI and intelligence sources, the official said. On Thursday, Attorney General Janet Reno and CIA Director R. James Woolsey presented the president with their formal reports. Clinton ordered the attack Friday, but the raid was delayed a day so it would not fall on the Muslim sabbath, the official said. "About a dozen" U.S. allies and "friends in the region" were told in advance that the attack was coming; the reaction, according to the official, was mostly favorable. British Prime Minister John Major issued a statement last night supporting Clinton's action. The missiles struck late at night -- between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. Baghdad time -- because Clinton wished to minimize possible deaths of innocent civilians. Clinton also had the confessions of the two alleged leaders of the 16 suspects arrested by Kuwait when the plot was uncovered. Both are Iraqi nationals. Ra'ad Asadi and Wali Abdelhadi Ghazali told FBI investigators detailed to Kuwait that they met in Basra, Iraq, on April 12 with "individuals they believed to be associated with the Iraqi Intelligence Service," according to a senior U.S. intelligence official. They were given a vehicle loaded with hidden explosives. Ghazali told the FBI he was recruited specifically to kill Bush. Asadi also told the FBI he was to guide the car bomb, driven by his partner, to Kuwait University, where Bush was to be honored by the Emir of Kuwait for his leadership in the gulf war. Administration officials said the suspects told the FBI that the bomb was to be parked near the motorcade route. From a vantage point 300 to 500 yards away, Ghazali would set off the bomb using a remote control. FBI bomb specialists estimated the bomb would have been lethal for nearly a quarter-mile. FBI agents were told if the remote control device failed, the bomb was to be detonated by a timing device on a street in Kuwait City named for Bush. They were also told that Ghazali had a "bomb belt" he would use if all else failed; he was to wear it, approach Bush and blow them both up. There have been reports that the suspects held in Kuwait have been tortured by Kuwaiti officials, but a senior law enforcement official said last night that FBI agents "believe they were not." The CIA recalled that, after the gulf war, Saddam was heard on official Iraq media promising to hunt down and punish Bush, even after he left office. "From the first days of our revolution, America's security has depended on the clarity of this message: Don't tread on us." The monitoring was accepted by Baghdad at the end of the 1991 gulf war, as part of a series of agreements meant to strip Iraq of its weapons of mass destruction. But U.S. officials did not cite that dispute in explaining the action last night, and U.S. warplanes involved in policing U.N. sanctions against Iraq did not take part. "I think it was a good thing. I support it. If I can help, let me know," Dole told Clinton, according to a CNN interview. The U.S. attack was initiated at 4:22 p.m. (EDT), when two ships -- the destroyer USS Peterson in the Red Sea and the cruiser USS Chancellorsville in the Persian Gulf -- began firing a total of 23 Tomahawk cruise missiles at the Iraqi Intelligence Service headquarters complex in downtown Baghdad. The missiles, which each cost an estimated $1.1 million, typically fly 50 to 100 feet above the ground and navigate by radar according to detailed maps stored in onboard computers. Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Colin L. Powell told reporters at the Pentagon last night that a detailed assessment of the damage was not immediately available. But Powell said he had "preliminary information that a large number of them impacted where they were supposed to." Officials made clear that no further military action was planned and warned Iraq not to retaliate. Powell said the Navy had moved several ships closer to Iraq so the United States could respond to any Iraqi retaliation. An aerial picture of the principal targeted building, shown to reporters at the Pentagon last night, showed a large, six-story structure with three wings located off the central corridors. Four satellite dishes sat atop the building's roof. Nearby were various buildings labeled as administrative, housing and support offices or vehicle storage sheds, and the entire complex -- roughly a football field in length -- was surrounded by a wall. U.S. officials cited the complex's isolation and the fact that the attack was timed to occur during Baghdad's nighttime as factors that would reduce the number of innocent casualties. Powell and Aspin declined to say how many people were expected to be in the complex but said a portion of it functioned around the clock. The attack was not expected to "take down the entire complex," Powell said, but to ruin Iraq's ability to continue using it. He noted that the complex was attacked and damaged once before by the United States, during the 1991 Operation Desert Storm bombing campaign aimed at pressuring Iraq to withdraw its forces from Kuwait. But Iraq had since rebuilt the headquarters. Aspin said the Iraqi Intelligence Service is the country's largest such agency and was responsible for providing security for Saddam's regime, repressing internal opposition, collecting foreign intelligence and conducting terrorist operations abroad, including the planned assassination attempt. disability/assistance/HELP? am a 22 yr old Female, married, 1 child who is 2. I was in pursuit of becoming a RN registered nurse. I have a few health problems, but FINALLY got accepted and now have health insurance. Because of my having health insurance, I got testing done on a few physical issues that were concerning me. I was diagnosed about 1 month ago with pulmonary hypertension by an echocardiogram, heart clots, and holes are ruled out as being a cause(with a transesophageal echocardiogram) and I am now seeing a Pulmonary Hypertension specialist, who did a right heart catheterization on me 2 days ago (which is considered the golden standard of pulmonary hypertension diagnosis,and gives a direct measurement of the actual hypertension range, instead of an estimate like the echocardiogram, and the Transesophageal echocardiogram. My diastolic measurement was 83, which in a healthy persons pulmonary artery should be about 20. I know that my heart on the right side is enlarged due to the pressure build up, I know that it is pushing on that side of my lung, and I know that my prognosis is 10 years OPTIMAL --unless there is a breakthrough in medicine for this rare disease that affects 1 : 1 million people. And for me the cause is unknown which makes my diagnosis, Idiopathic Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension. However, during the right heart catherization I fell into the category of the few with this disease that have a good response to the medication. So because of that my prognosis could be better if I take the medications , and do all I can to improve my condition. The problem is, The medications I need to take to improve this are warfarin(a blood thinner)-very cheap, Viagra(yes,it was originally created for hypertension), but because folks have difficulty getting errections and I need this to LIVE, insurance won't cover it, and I have to pay $96 for an 8 day supply. I also need to take a medication which I have not yet been prescribed, which will cost between 85-125 THOUSAND dollars a year, depending on the brand, and I know my Insurance company is trying to find reasons to change this... So does anyone know what I should do, or what I am entitled to? the only option I see is going on disability. Other than the money, I have horrible symptoms of fatigue, because oxygen isnt being pumped adequately to the rest of my body, which often causes me to faint as as result of not enough oxygen to my brain, which can be brought on by taking 4 steps, or simply standing up. it causes TONS of other symptoms, not to mention my other health problems prior to this diagnosis. I just dont know what to do because I have to take my meds to live, but can't afford them, and there's no way i can work right now due to my physical and mental status, even if I did work, who has over 100 thousand dollars to spend on 1 type of medicine??? If my time is limited I need to use every ounce of energy and muster up any happiness left to shed on my 2 year old and the rest of my family who are hurting. I have seen people cry (like my dad), who I have never seen cry not ONE other time in MY ENTIRE LIFE!!! I stay up at night wondering if my daughter will even remember me, and if so, hoping that I am not remembered subconsciously as a sick, weak, depressed mother who ...blah... I also don't know if I were to recieve it if it would be based on shitty part time jobs I had while I was in school, working to be something and working to save peoples lives, making the deans list Every quarter, and aspiring to prevent people from having to deal with health care workers that I have. Although they say there is no known cause, it is only because they can't prove that my problem is due to thyroid disease. My normal TSH(thyroid stimulating hormone) should be 5 at the highest, bloodwork was done, and 2 years later I was retested by my current physician. whoever did it the first time overlooked that my TSH was 394 instead of 5 .. A SIGNIFICANT difference, which is why I have hashimotos thyroiditis, also known simply as hypothyroidism, or a leukocyte deficiency, which is known as an auto immune disease. Auto immune diseases however have been linked to PAH as as well as simply put,,, Thyroid diseases this was uncontrolled for so long and go to such a crazy range that it could be why I am where I am now. I am stuck in all of this, and my husband is stuck having to look after me and our daughter because I can't walk 5 feet without fainting for about 3 minutes, and 4minutes and higher can cause irreversible brain damage...I'm just sooo overwhelmed, and young, and I don't know what order, or what steps for that matter to take?? If anyone could help I would really apppreciate this.
