SEO Help With Link Popularity etc..?

I have been designing a site and doind tons of research about SEO. I keep reading that you should have links on other websites back to yours and that its better if there in the same category. I was just wondering how that is possible. If they are doing the same thing, why link back to me? What is the best way to find these places to link? The site is for Central Vacuum Cleaners...will getting a link on a normal vacuum site work? Please help..

2. Truth be told, no links can really hurt. I think you narrowed down your criteria. Also don't expect to get a lot of traffic and SE position just because you have relevant links. It all takes time. Also note that link exchange programs generally don't help with SEO as far as bots and crawlers are concerned, but every now and again a visitor may stumble upon your site from someone elses' links page.

   You can get a free link at http://directorix.net either under business or retail (it's your choice, submitting is simple as sending an e-mail). The link won't be buried on a links page and it'll be under a relevant category. You'll also find other good SEO articles for DIYers, as well. Hope this helps.
